(TW: fetishization and gross understanding of trans men)
She also made THIS: http://www.darcomic.org/2009/02/17/transmen/
So. Yeah. Let’s not celebrate her for having the best understanding and respect for all queer identities.
not fucking cool seriously.
I love how they try to be satirical about their fetishization/completely fucking direspect of trans* bodies when really they just call themselves the fuck out and ignore their own call out.
Meta-transphobia
Major side-eye. What is the point of understanding that someone is disrespected and dehumanised by something you said, the same thing that can get them killed, and then continuing to do it and justifying it simply by pointing out that the disrespected party exists? She does something similar with her racist bullshit except she says she’s
working on it.Am I reading this really wrong or something? The letter was written after the original comic (2012 for the letter, 2009 for the comic) and says that she regrets the comic now that she is better educated but is keeping it for comic continuity…
I regret this strip below! However I am leaving it up to keep the six year run of DAR! whole (the good and the bad!)
So she drew it when she was ignorant of trans* issues, received complaints and proceeded to educate herself, and has gone back to leave a warning and an apology…
Since it’s creation I have spent time learning about my cis-privilege and working through my unawareness with personal research and education. The strip itself has a great deal of faults, including it’s poor wording and ignorance - which can’t be excused.

This is simply a heart felt apology and a promise that I have grown, learned better and will continue to keep educating myself.
It just seems like lots of people are assuming that the comic and the statement were made at the same time, though they’re events from different bits of time pressed together. I assume that the the Queer comic is more recent, mostly because I don’t think that asexuality was getting as much attention back in 2009 and she included it in the comic (hurrah :D).
So are we handwaving away the positivity of the Queer comic because the artist made something gross and poorly researched in the past, when they have acknowledged the pain that thing caused and have apologised for it and made a conscientious decision to be better in the future?
