but here in Australia it is illegal to publicly name sex offenders if they’ve appealed to have their name suppressed. For some time now, a local radio host, Derryn Hinch, has been putting his career and freedom on the line by naming these people. What I don’t understand is, why are these people allowed to appeal to not be named? In the story I just read, the sex offender claimed it would severely negatively affect his reputation and ability to earn income. Duh! You’ve done something horrific and ruined someone else’s life. Why do they deserve any protection?
